DIY Kitchen update on a budget PREVIEW

I am so proud of the outcome I have to aw myself for a moment!  I don't have a complete before or a full after as I still need to do some finishing touches. We painted our cabinets, spray painted the hood, I painted the countertops (tutorial coming soon)  and installed a faux tin tile backsplash all by myself!!

Will update when kitchen is complete, so excited of the progress I had to share :)

Before...

After.......(Drumroll please)......

DIY Spring Wreath

In anticipation for spring I made this beautiful wreath for our door.

 Using a grapevine wreath from Michael's and a Letter "C" for our last name and for the flowers used coffee filters (already had on hand) and food coloring (again already had).

I followed this tutorial and chose to use red food coloring. I soaked the filters in a large bowl with water and a couple squirts of red food coloring only for a second just enough to cover the filters then ringed out the excess liquid. Then separated each one to let dry (we let them dry overnight).

Attached the flowers to the wreath using hot glue, and then twine for our initial. And look at this beauty :)

If you would like me to make you one, please contact me, if you chose to make one please give credit where it is due!

Door Decor for kids

Using a command hook upside down I hung this frame (that Daddy made)with ribbon for Hayden's room. I love the personalization and the fact that I can easily take it down with no damage.

I should probably tie it in a pretty bow, but you get the idea!

DIY backsplash ideas

So I really want to do a backsplash behind our stove, without the help of my husband.... Here are some ideas I found to contemplate from pinterest.

Peel and stick "glass" tiles;

Ikea placemat tiles; easily interchangable;

Taping off the walls and painting;

Faux tin tiles;

Chalkboard backsplash;

If you have any great ideas to share please do! I'd love to see them! Or if you want to help me decide let me know your feedback!

Metal Cardboard letters

Pinterest approved. I'm cheap, did you notice that yet?!

>I took an old box and cut out my own letters for our kitchen "YUM" after cutting them out
>I made a design using elmers glue, which did not make the design raised up enough so I went over the same design with hot glue, much better!
>Then I folded tin foil over each letter, and
>finished it with Oil rubbed bronze spray paint. Love how the silver in the tin foil popped out.

 I didn't pay a dime for this project, because I already had tin foil and spray paint on hand.

I could have made them thicker but I wanted to hang them without having to use nails or anything that could/would damage the walls, so I hung them with 3M tacky compound.
Sorry for the blurry pictures.

Wicker Trunk Redo on a Budget

The Before:
$5 Craigslist find

The supplies, 1/2 batting for cushion, fabric to cover cushion

Adding some legs, a little extra wood glue

Attaching the legs, easy with a washer on the inside

And there they are, all the legs attached!

And let the spraypainting begin!

And the final product! How beatiful :)
Also spraypainted the hinges. And sewed the fabric as a slipcover for the cushion.

5-minute spruce up

5-minute spruce up

Simple floating shelves with varying decor . Use items with varying heights and widths to create depth and interesting focal points . Very easy to update and spruce up your decor.

Notice my pear from previous post :)

Picture perfect

Picture perfect!
-old frame
-twine
-nails
-stain
I wanted a piece of art that would make a bold statement that was cheap so when I wanted to replace it I didn't feel guilty.
So I found an old frame(from a dresser originally holding a mirror) stained it with an espresso stain,then using nails secured the twine in a criss crossed pattern as seen in the picture. My original plan was to use clothespins to place pictures within the frame to easily change them out but when I finished to what you see today I was pleased with it as it was.
Total Cost to me was $2.79 which was the cost of the stain everything else I had on hand .
